2022 vintage - 95 points Decanter Dec 2023. Named after an endemic daisy species, this was grown on schist soils in Bendigo. All the fruit was destemmed and extraction was very gentle. A peppery and dark nose with floral overtones leads onto a quite tight, dense and tart palate that brims with ripe cherry and is edged with a mouthwatering tanginess. Juiciness pervades the fine weave of tannin and the finish holds slight pepper but also a subtle, delicious edge of bitterness reminiscent of apple pip and cherry kernel.

Subtle red and blue fruits, a little waxy and minerally, light spice and soft mocha notes. This has a good core of succulent fruit yet is dry and contained with good minerality, tight tannins and a chalky finish. Quite light-framed and elegant, the stonier, exposed site is the flipside to the structured Home Vineyard’s clay/pedogenic lime soils. Always a fascinating contrast to the Home Vineyard – as the two wines are made identically – however the Olearia is sourced from just around the corner, a parcel of vines at the top of the steep Rocky Point Vineyard, which has a spectacular view out across Lake Dunstan.
