Gaja is simply one of the most famous Italian wine producers. The business was founded in 1859 in Langhe, Piedmont by Giovanni Gaja and it is his great grandson, Angelo Gaja, who currently runs the company. They are most famous for classic Piedmont wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco. Indeed, Angelo has often been referred to as the “King of Barbaresco” and has been responsible for developing techniques that have revolutionised winemaking in Italy.

2019 Gaja Ca’Marcanda Promis is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah, 10% Sangiovese, making it a mini 'Super Tuscan'. The grapes come from vineyards in Bolgheri and the neighbouring area of Bibbona. The three varieties are fermented and macerated separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of oak ageing the wines are blended together and left to age in bottle for some months prior to release.

The name “Promis” signifies the Gaja family’s commitment, or promise, to produce wines of the highest quality possible, the rewards of diligence and excellence.
