Marc Plouzeau’s 2019 Touraine Sauvignon Blanc is made from a parcel of thirty-plus year-old vines. The wine is very high quality, with the nose jumping from the glass in a vibrant blend of gooseberry, lime, cut grass, chalky soil tones and a topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, racy and rock solid at the core, with great cut and grip, laser- like focus and superb mineral drive on the very long, complex and snappy finish. This is the finest and most serious example of Touraine Sauvignon Blanc I have ever tasted, which is no doubt a testament to the superb quality of both the 2019 vintage and the serious skills in the cellar of Monsieur Plouzeau! Think of this as the quality equivalent of a top flight bottling of Chavignol Sancerre in a great vintage, which will be even better with a year or two of bottle age! 2020- 2030+."
The cultivation method used by Marc Plouzeau and his know-how in winemaking gives a Sauvignon very typical by its clay-limestone terroir. Very pale in colour, it surprises us with its rich bouquet of citrus , peach and flint. On the palate, we appreciate its slightly lemony freshness. A real treat with shellfish or goat cheese .
