Northern Rhône range from fierce to elegant and include some of the world’s most famous Syrahs. We need to be looking for the rich concentration of flavours that can magically have high-pitched acidity AND brightness to the fruit.
Lionel Faury is making stunning wines and has moved his 17 hectares family domaine to the top of the first division of growers and super value in Northern Rhône. The Saint Joseph Hedonism 2018, from 10-35-year-old vines and bottled without filtration, is intensely fruity, fresh with a note of minerality and spice.
This is a great example of St Joseph showing great features of the appellation at a fraction of the price of the most famous names.
"Opaque ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of ripe red and dark berries, violet and smoky minerals, accompanied by a hint of olive that sneaks up with air. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering lively, spice-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that turn sweeter through the midpalate.
