Red Wine
Alain Jaume
Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine des Peres de l'Eglise is a full bodied rich spicy wine. Black pepper spice on the nose, full soft mature fruit with a smooth spicy finish that lingers in the mouth.
Serge Gradassi represents the fifth generation of this family run-winery, which was founded around 1800. However, it is only since 2001 that they have been bottling their best wines under their own domain name. They are in possession of 20 hectares, of which about 17 are distributed on a number of parcels in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape area. The average age of the vines is around 80 years. The family even has a vineyard with all 13 authorized varieties which was planted in 1885 by their great-grandfather! All grapes are picked by hand. Depending on the vintage and the quality, the vinification of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape takes place in barriques, foudres or in stainless steel tanks. If the quality of a certain vintage is not satisfactory, it is not bottled under their own name, as was the case in 2008. Both the white and the two red bottlings have an impressive aromatic richness, intensity and power. The Chateauneuf-du-Pape Calice de Saint Pierre, which consists of at least 90 percent Grenache from various parcels in the area, proves that the domain is a worthy representative of this historic region.
