Malbec - Le Cèdre 2015 - Chateau du Cèdre - Cahors - France
Red Wine
Chateau du Cèdre
The flagship premium red cuvee of Chateau du Cèdre in Cahors, the original home of the Malbec grape.
Le Cèdre is 100% Malbec and sees some age in new oak. It has a delicate, smoky, damson nose and a thick, concentrated mid-palate. Almost black in colour with purple tints. Fresh with mineral, floral (violet) and dark fruit aromas. The palate is perfectly balanced combining an aromatic intensity and roundness with incredibly silky tannins. Drink 2016 – 2030+
The Verhaeghe family have been making wine in the Lot since the 1950s. Today it is Pascal and Jean-Marc in charge of this domaine, which is certified organic. They own three parcels of vineyards, the largest of which is 12.5 acres with stony calcareous clay which is called `Tran`, which plays an important role retaining heat and moisture. Drawing on his winemaking experience from California to Burgundy, Pascal delicately creates wines of great elegance and roundness, from IGP to AOP status. His nickname is "the Merlin of Cahors"!
